These course materials grew out of an effort to rebuild the physics major at Centenary College of Louisiana. I wrote the proposal that became the current major, designing a curriculum that would be coherent for physics students, practical for a small liberal-arts department, and compatible with three-year pathways for our pre-engineering students.
The sequence emphasizes a recognizable physics core—introductory mechanics and electromagnetism, modern physics, analytical mechanics, thermal and statistical mechanics, laboratory work, and a capstone experience—while giving students opportunities to develop computational, experimental, and professional skills.
The major itself has several courses in other fields (e.g. courses in math, chemistry, computer science), but the syllabi above represent the core of the B.A. The physics B.S. degree also includes upper-level elective coursework.
